HEALTH AND MIND CLUB RAISES AWARENESS ON MENTAL HEALTH THROUGH NUKKAD NATAK

Mental health is a hugely unaddressed issue which, we as the Health and Mind club of DPS Sharjah aim to alleviate. Health and Mind club of DPS Sharjah is associated with Mental Health for Every Adolescent (MHEA), University Of Washington at Seattle.

Mental health remains a taboo topic in society but is now slowly becoming a prevalent part of determining the overall health of a person. Health cannot be categorized into physical and mental, as both are an integral part of a happy and well balanced person. Maintaining good mental health, especially among young and developing minds helps them handle stress without breaking under pressure, relate to their peers, make right choices and deal with any issues in a healthy way. It also plays a major role in assisting teens to realize their full potential and be happy and satisfied with themselves and their life.

Students of grades 9 to 12 performed a Nukkad Natak on 24th January 2019 highlighting the need to remove the stigma around mental illness. Through this play, students highlighted the need to talk openly about mental health and wellness, learn ways to support friends or family members if they have a mental health concern.

We are a school that values the mental wellness of our students and takes a proactive approach to early prevention and intervention of students in need of support.

We hope that the Nukkad Natak is a step towards creating awareness and educating other students and peers about the importance of mental health.
